A passion for the big city

Jo’s distinctive contemporary cityscapes are extremely popular. Her inspiration comes from life itself and she has become fascinated with people in an urban environment.

Taking frequent trips to London to observe and photograph people going about their daily lives, Jo’s passion for the big city and its people is clear to see in her bright and contemporary work. She particularly likes places which are busy and where people congregate – Southbank and Trafalgar Square being particular favourites. Her clever use of light and shadow creates striking compositions. She aims to create work that is ambitious in scale and complexity which encourages the viewer to take a closer look and get involved in the many characters. She works in a variety of media but particularly likes acrylic for its speed and flexibility.
