Suzanne is a contemporary artist working predominantly in acrylics and mixed media. The focus of her work is nature and the natural world. She finds inspiration in the landscape around her home in rural Hampshire. The changing moods of a landscape, and the feelings that they evoke are key themes in her painting. “The fringes of the South Downs provide a varied landscape of farmland, woodland, steep hangars, sunken lanes, and wide open views. In my work I try to convey something of my feelings as they arise in response to moments of connection with nature.”
Shifting moods of the sea also intrigue and inspire her. Local beaches such as West Wittering and Climping are favourite haunts.
Further afield the rugged Cornish coastline, and the windswept Atlantic coast of south west Spain provide subject matter for seascape paintings and studies.
“In my seascapes, as with my landscapes, I am interested in the dynamic between what is solid, enduring, and unchanging, versus the moment by moment changes in light, atmosphere, and mood.”
Animals have always been an important part of her life, and she also enjoys capturing animal personalities in her paintings. “My aim is not to produce a photographic reproduction of the subject, but to create an image which captures a likeness of the animal in terms of personality as well as physical characteristics.”
